Injalak Hill Mapping

In mid 2023, we completed the first stage of a partnership pilot program which explores the use of digital mapping technology to support cultural preservation.

Agency and Phoria worked alongside Injalak Arts arts workers, artists and guides to begin the creation of a 3D “digital twin” of the ancient rock art on Injalak Hill in Gunbalanya, NT.

Injalak Hill is one of the most important rock art sites in the world and has been a place of ongoing cultural storytelling for over 8000 years.

This pilot is the beginning of an ongoing commitment to work together to map the entire site, and represents a cutting-edge and innovative approach to accessibility, conservation and cultural maintenance.

The final outcome will be an immersive, community-owned and publicly available resource that will ensure and promote intergenerational transfer of knowledge for a stronger future for the Gunbalanya community.
