Kansas City Residence

Dean Cross (Worimi) has been announced as the recipient of a fully funded residency at the National WWI Museum and Memorial in Kansas City which will culminate in a commission of a new work by Dean that will be acquired by the Museum.

This residency is supported by the Australian Consulate-General in Chicago, the National WWI Museum and Memorial in Kansas City, and Agency, and has also included a visit to the Australian War Memorial, Canberra, where Dean had the opportunity to commence research within the Australian context.

The bilateral project aims to expand and question museum and collection narratives around war from the perspective of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists, and with a particular focus on the historical events of the Great War.

Dean Cross is an artist primarily working across installation, sculpture and painting. He has exhibited widely across the Australian continent and beyond and his work is held by major institutions including The Art Gallery of South Australia, National Gallery of Victoria and The Powerhouse Museum, Sydney. Dean Cross is represented by Station Gallery.
