UNTOLD Tide of Returns Book Launch
Agency Projects, Anindilyakwa Arts and the Repatriates Collective warmly invite you to a special Melbourne presentation of Tide of Returns.
A work of profound cultural resonance and artistic ambition, Tide of Returns reveals the power of art to carry memory across oceans, reconnect communities, and honour the enduring ties between people, place, and ancestral homelands.
Originally commissioned by TBA21 for the 2026 Venice Biennale at Ocean Space, Tide of Returns was created in close collaboration with the Warnindilyakwa community of Groote Eylandt.
At the heart of the installation are more than 2,500 Dadikwakwa-kwa (shell dolls), handcrafted by Anindilyakwa artists. Woven through sand, film, and sound, they are adorned in vibrant Namibian textiles and carried on a symbolic journey of return: connecting histories, communities, and ancestral homelands across oceans.
Join us for a conversation with artist Danjibana Noeleen Lalara, Britten Andrews (Media Coordinator, Anindilyakwa Media), filmmaker Kasimir Burgess, and artist Khadija von Zinnenburg Carroll, exploring the relationships, stories, and creative exchange at the heart of the project. The conversation will be facilitated by Leila Gurruwiwi, and followed by a special screening of From My Mother’s Country.
